Tracks
Each piece has Infra-red encoding patterns embedded in the track, with an IR transparent ink top coat for traction and protection. The codes serve as markers of lane position (there are 16 possible lanes), and track piece type and orientation. The Supercars translate this information to determine where they are in relation to the overall track, how fast they’re moving, and which direction they’re headed.

The Cars
Supercars are equipped with a tiny 50Mhz computer and infrared cameras. The cameras scan the infrared markings on the track pieces at 500Hz to determine and maintain position.
Software on the Supercars decode track markings, control driving behaviors, and communicates with the device. Wireless communication with the device makes the car react quickly to controller inputs.

Software
Before a race or battle beings, the Supercars collectively scan the track.Track scanning uses Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) algorithms to discover the user-built track configuration, as well as localize all the cars.
Our path planner runs an algorithm which take into account the dynamic obstacles tight time constraints in a fast-moving game. We evaluate thousands of possible future states and actions every second.
